Married@thecastle

We specialise in intimate weddings that take place in the Castle’s Lady Eleanor room. The Castle grounds are also available for weddings, an outdoor reception and photographs.

We have a friendly and experienced team to help you plan your special day and ensure that everything runs smoothly.

Once the home of Marcher Lords, 12th century Whittington Castle is an idyllic wedding venue set in 12 lovely acres, including a photogenic moat.

The strikingly picturesque and romantic Castle, steeped in history and with tales of romance and legend, is nestled in the Shropshire countryside close to the Welsh border.

There is ample parking, excellent hotels nearby as well as a mainline railway station.

Volunteer@thecastle

We offer a wide range of activities to participate in, either indoors or outside at the Castle, from home, or at the office.  You can work on your own or be part of team, come by yourself or bring a friend. Wear your own clothes or occasionally dress up.  Play the part of a historical character or even a ghost!

Many of our activities take place at the weekend so you might find yourself among medieval re-enactors, a plant or craft fair or a classic car meet.  Not many places can offer so much.  There may even be volunteering opportunities that we haven’t yet thought of.  Make a suggestion and we’ll listen.

It’s a great way to build a CV and we can also provide a reference.  Volunteering will give you plenty to talk about at an interview or with your friends and family!  We are keen to attract younger volunteers and have several interesting roles including events, marketing and helping with our social media.

Events@thecastle

There is a wide range of events throughout the year to suits all interests and ages.  Join us for re-enactments, our popular handmade plant hunters’ fairs, classic car meets, open air theatre, Green Fair. New for autumn 2022: Wellbeing into Winter and a creative course programme. Course and car park fees apply. There may be an entrance fee or we may ask for donations to support our restoration work.

Room and venue hire@thecastle

We have rooms available for meetings and a large site for a range of outdoor activities.  The Castle is the perfect venue for a corporate away day and celebrations.

School visits

Community@thecastle

The Castle is a great meeting place, somewhere just to sit or take a stroll.  Dogs are welcome across the site, including the tearoom, but do clear up after your dog.  You will find a warm welcome and someone to talk to if you are on your own.
